About The Position

Sierra Lobo is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, build, and testing of hazardous test systems within the Materials Components and Testing Department at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility. This role involves conducting hazardous liquids, gasses, or cryogenic testing across various conditions and configurations. The engineer will prepare detailed work instructions, oversee mechanical technicians in a union environment, and manage pressure systems according to ASME and NASA requirements, including performing necessary calculations for safe operation. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science related field minimum.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering field, or equivalent.
  • Project Lead experience.
  • MS Project experience.
  • Hazardous Testing systems experience.
  • Hypergolic propellant experience.
  • Cryogenic media experience.
  • Ordinance Handler experience.
  • Hazard assessment skills.
  • Basic computational tools (Excel, MathCad, AutoCAD, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, build, and testing of hazardous test systems within the Materials Components and Testing Department.
  • Conduct hazardous liquids, gasses or cryogenic testing involving a variety of test methods, temperatures, pressures, and test configurations.
  • Prepare detailed work instruction documents, including direction and oversight for mechanical technicians in a union environment.
  • Manage pressure systems to ASME and NASA site specific requirements, including designing and maintaining pressure systems to include flow, pressure, compatibility, and stress calculations to allow for safe personnel operation.
  • Prepare and present informal and formal briefings to the customer and internal management.
  • Support other Laboratory Department groups, such as Oxygen Group or Hypervelocity, depending on department workload demands.
