About The Position

Procon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in the Huntington, WV area to provide professional engineering and construction management support for healthcare facility modernization and construction projects. This role will support mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, building automation, and utility infrastructure systems while serving as a technical advisor and supporting quality assurance, project oversight, commissioning, and technical compliance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of field construction management, construction administration, or construction oversight experience.
  • Experience supporting both design and construction phases of facility projects.
  • Experience with mechanical systems for complex facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, ventilation, utility, and related infrastructure systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical code compliance, construction standards, quality assurance practices, and inspection procedures.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, equipment startup, TAB procedures, and facility turnover activities.
  • Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittits, RFIs, schedules, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling, project controls, cost estimating, change management, and progress verification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, designers, owners, and government stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required government credentials and facility access.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer registration preferred, or ability to obtain within a defined period.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 60 days.

Responsibilities

  • Review mechanical designs, drawings, specifications, submittits, RFIs, and related project documentation for constructability, accuracy, and technical compliance.
  • Provide technical recommendations related to construction approaches, value engineering, system coordination, schedule impacts, and issue resolution.
  • Perform field inspections of mechanical construction activities to verify compliance with approved construction documents, codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Observe contractor work in progress and identify deficiencies, quality concerns, coordination conflicts, and potential schedule impacts.
  • Evaluate contractor change proposals, field modifications, progress claims, and percent-complete documentation.
  • Assist with cost estimating, budget reviews, technical evaluations, and construction progress reporting.
  • Prepare inspection reports, deficiency logs, technical memoranda, meeting notes, and other project documentation.
  • Maintain project records related to inspections, construction activities, testing, commissioning, issue resolution, and closeout.
  • Participate in progress meetings, coordination meetings, design reviews, construction planning discussions, and project scheduling updates.
  • Support commissioning activities for HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, medical gas, and utility infrastructure systems.
  • Witness equipment startup, functional performance testing, system verification, and Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing activities.
  • Review TAB reports, operations and maintenance manuals, as-built documentation, warranties, training materials, and turnover documentation.
  • Assist with owner training, occupancy readiness, operational turnover, and project closeout activities.
