About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer coordinates across business functions to understand market requests and translate them into design specifications for products. This role involves acting as a technical expert, managing changes, and improving designs to meet customer needs and ensure manufacturability and serviceability. Projects may include evaluating new technologies, materials, fastening methods, corrosion resistance, electrical principles, and strength analysis. The engineer will develop 2D and 3D models and drawings using CAD software, provide technical support to customers and internal departments, and collaborate with colleagues on design, testing, and documentation. This role also involves coordinating with the supply chain for component selection, preparing necessary documentation, participating in prototype building, developing testing criteria, analyzing failures, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2+ years of engineering experience, or a related combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years of CAD experience in 3D design software required in either Solidworks and/or Pro-E.
• ERP/MRP experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of steel alloys, strengths and tolerances preferred.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality principals preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with product management, engineering, and sales to understand market requests and translate those requests into design specifications.
• Revise designs as needed, improving manufacturability to accommodate ease of production.
• Assist in the review and on-going, continuous improvement of design system standards.
• Assist with product development and design activities that include mechanical and electrical designs that meet design specifications and are manufacturable and serviceable.
• Develop 2D and 3D models/drawings of assemblies, and components using CAD software.
• Provide a technical resource to customers and internal departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems regarding products.
• Collaborate with colleagues in the completion of assigned design, test, and documentation.
• Act as a technical resource to train and assist engineers, technicians, and designers.
• Coordinate with supply chain to specify the appropriate and cost-effective components.
• Prepare or direct the preparation of calculations, equipment layouts, detail drawings, bills of material and maintains components and equipment in the business system data base.
• Participate in the manufacturing or building of prototype components or products.
• Develop the testing criteria and establishes the test parameters for newly designed components or existing product modifications as required. Compiles test data to evaluate the components or equipment to assure meeting the required function or performance.
• Analyze and prepares or directs the preparation of calculations, equipment layouts, detail drawings, and bills of material required to address Engineering Change Requests including ERP.
• Review failed components of existing products when requested by Quality Assurance to determine the probable cause of failure and recommends course of action to prevent future occurrences.
• Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
