About The Position

At Mechasys, we’re reimagining how construction teams bring blueprints to life. Our XR Projector is a breakthrough 3D positioning tool that projects digital construction plans at a 1:1 scale directly on the job site—accurately, efficiently, and without guesswork. By merging cutting-edge optics, software, and embedded systems, we’re enabling builders to work faster, smarter, and with millimetre precision. Based in Montreal, our passionate team is committed to shaping the future of construction technology. We’re scaling fast, and we’re looking for the right people to help us get there. The Role We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support everything related to mechanical design and development of our XR Projector systems. Working within a cross-functional team, you’ll drive mechanical engineering efforts from concept through prototyping, testing, and production, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, and field-ready. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, is excited by precision engineering challenges, and enjoys bringing innovative hardware from idea to reality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on precision systems, robotics or optomechanical devices. We will also consider less experienced candidates with particularly relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven track record of bringing hardware products from concept through to commercial release.
  • Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) and experience with mechanical simulations (FEA, thermal, tolerance analysis).
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, machining, and 3D printing.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain considerations.
  • A clear communicator who can balance design innovation with practical constraints.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with optics integration, robotics, or precision alignment systems is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with compliance/certification processes for hardware products is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment, iterating quickly, and collaborating closely with Scrum teams.
  • Bilingual in French and English is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of mechanical design, from concept to detailed CAD and drawings.
  • Develop high-precision mechanisms, optomechanical assemblies, and enclosures for durability and usability.
  • Ensure alignment and integration with optics, electronics, and embedded systems.
  • Rapidly prototype mechanical concepts, using 3D printing, machining, and other fabrication techniques.
  • Drive testing and validation of designs under real-world conditions.
  • Implement iterative improvements based on field and user feedback.
  • Work closely with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
  • Drive DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) best practices.
  • Partner with optics, hardware, and firmware teams to align on system requirements.
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to meet regulatory and safety standards (e.g., IEC, CE, FCC).
  • Support field servicing, diagnostics, and sustaining engineering initiatives.

Benefits

  • Competitive, based on experience
  • Stock options – own a piece of what you help build
  • 3 weeks vacation + unlimited personal/sick days
  • Full health, dental, vision, and professional development coverage
