About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for its innovative technologies that push boundaries. The Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control. This role involves supervising the Mechanical Equipment Engineering team at the CET Erwin Plant, focusing on improving equipment OEE, managing capital equipment projects, and supporting new product development. The team comprises mechanical engineering, project management, and drawing/design expertise. The position ensures the safety of plant personnel through safe design, operations, and maintenance of plant property and equipment, and is responsible for growing team skills to meet objectives. It also involves implementing new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and methods.

Requirements

Bachelors or Masters in an engineering discipline (mechanical preferred)
3- 5 years’ experience in manufacturing or engineering with supervision
Technical competence in mechanical engineering
Proficient people management and development
Experience successfully developing and delivering capital equipment projects
Project leadership, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team.
Achieve results through application of rigorous project management methods, such as 6-Sigma.
Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making.

Budget development and management
Knowledge of Solidworks, CAD software systems and document control
Experience with application of 6-Sigma methods and MEE
Experience with ceramics processing or related technologies
Experience with maintenance management and repair parts systems (Maximo, PeopleSoft, other)

Responsibilities

Supervise the Mechanical Equipment Engineering team at CET Erwin Plant.
Develop solutions to improve equipment OEE.
Manage capital equipment projects.
Support new product development.
Ensure the safety of plant personnel through safe design, operations and maintenance of plant property and equipment.
Grow team skills for successful completion of team, personal, and career objectives.
Allocate and manage resources to meet plant objectives and division vital few.
Implement new manufacturing technologies, equipment, and methods.
Champion safety in all aspects of mechanical equipment design, installation and repair.
Lead resolution of complex equipment problems.
Improve existing manufacturing equipment processes and capabilities to reduce cost, improve quality, safety or capacity.
Manage drawings and design services.
Develop and install root cause analysis and structured problem solving for cause identification and corrective action.
Manage internal Corning and external resources to meet project deliverables.
Work with the plant capital manager to provide input to the capital portfolio.
Develop, instill and promote effective project management skills.
Provide project leadership, technical and equipment engineering leadership/ skills to meet department goals and objectives.
