About The Position

ANDRITZ Canada, a world leader in the design of hydroelectric turbines and generators with over 185 years of know-how, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its hydro generator engineering group. This team focuses on the custom design of large hydro generator components, primarily for North American projects, at the Andritz Hydro Peterborough Generator Center. The role involves technical responsibility for mechanical design throughout the project lifecycle, including proposal, contract design, manufacturing, and installation. The position offers the opportunity to work on diverse challenges such as stress, heat transfer, ventilation, vibration, and bearing analysis, contributing to sustainable technology and a clean future.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
Existing or potential for Professional Engineer registration
Familiarity with MathCAD & Excel
Computer skills in common PC applications
Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative & creativity
Ability to work with people in a team environment
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to travel & work with various cultures
Legal status to work in Canada is required.

Responsibilities

Optimization of hydro generator mechanical design for proposals, contracts, and studies.
Analysis of mechanical components using in-house tools or developing necessary calculations.
Documentation for proposals, technical reports, and customer O&M manuals.
Review and approval of mechanical drawings to ensure contractual and internal requirements are met.
Creation of engineering instructions defining technical requirements for manufacturing, installation, and testing.
Disposition of non-conformances during manufacturing and installation.
Review and analysis of site data and testing.
Creation and calibration of design tools.
Work on R&D projects for the development of new generator technologies.
