•$79,100 - $112,800

About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer IV within Wabtec Passenger Transit (WPT) Engineering, you will apply mechanical engineering knowledge to the design, development, validation, and sustainment of brake control products used on mass transit vehicles. You will independently execute complex technical assignments, evaluate engineering tradeoffs, support product improvements, and help deliver safe, reliable, cost-effective solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and business requirements. The role works closely with Product Engineering, Advanced Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Field Service, and Project Management throughout the product lifecycle. You will lead engineering tasks and work packages, perform design and analysis, support root-cause investigations and corrective actions, evaluate design changes, and contribute to continuous improvement. As an experienced engineer and technical resource, you will share knowledge, support problem-solving, and provide guidance within your areas of expertise. This position is primarily office-based, with regular interaction with manufacturing, laboratory, and testing environments. It involves frequent computer-based work, technical meetings and reviews, and occasional travel to customer, supplier, manufacturing, and testing locations (less than 25%). Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required in manufacturing, laboratory, testing, or customer environments.

  • Ability to work effectively across engineering disciplines and functional organizations.
  • Customer-focused mindset and commitment to practical engineering solutions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in rail, transportation, automotive, industrial equipment, aerospace, or another regulated manufacturing industry.
  • Experience designing pneumatic, hydraulic, electromechanical, or braking system components.
  • Familiarity with engineering change management, configuration control, and product release processes.
  • Experience interfacing directly with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams on technical matters.
  • Experience using SolidWorks, ANSYS, or equivalent CAD and analysis software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering tasks, work packages, and technical activities within product development and sustainment projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and cross-functional team members within areas of expertise.
  • Identify technical risks and support development of mitigation plans.
  • Design and develop components, assemblies, and systems for mass transit braking and auxiliary equipment.
  • Create and release engineering designs, analyses, models, drawings, and technical documentation using tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, and related engineering software.
  • Evaluate product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with customer and business requirements through engineering analysis, testing, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Test Engineering, Supply Chain, and Field Service to support product introduction, production, testing, issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
  • Work with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on technical reviews, product acceptance activities, and technical issue resolution.
  • Support proposal development, product cost evaluations, and technical planning for new business opportunities.
  • Prepare and maintain specifications, drawings, test plans, reports, engineering changes, and release packages.
  • Lead or support root-cause investigations and corrective actions to improve safety, quality, reliability, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute technical expertise to design reviews, problem-solving activities, and engineering best-practice initiatives.
  • Independently execute moderately to highly complex engineering assignments while balancing technical, schedule, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as required.
