About The Position

Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer in West Mifflin, PA. A DOE L Clearance (or DOD equivalent) is required to be considered for this position. This position involves working with a team of engineers supporting repair technology development efforts by leading test programs both within a laboratory setting and via commercial subcontracts. This challenging and rewarding position offers opportunities to continue expanding technical skills through assignments involving both established and novel repair technologies. Opportunities to improve interpersonal skills may occur via interfaces with stakeholders and support groups across the Naval Nuclear Laboratory, our shipyards, and Naval Reactors Headquarters in Washington, DC. The applicant must be able to plan, follow, and execute work efforts, as well as conceive and produce technical designs, instructions and procedures. The candidate will also contribute to the development of novel repair techniques by drafting, placing, following and reporting subcontracted repair method development/demonstration contracts. The position will also require some travel to vendors and shipyards to support project planning, equipment testing and repair deployment. Repair efforts may include epoxy/composite technologies, mechanical/machining processes, and arc welding technologies.

Requirements

  • A DOE L Clearance (or DOD equivalent)
  • US citizenship
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to develop and interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards
  • Ability to plan and execute test programs
  • Ability to design experiments
  • Ability to analyze experimental results
  • Ability to assist with the preparation of technical reports
  • Digital design/CAD skills

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with digital data acquisition hardware and software
  • Knowledge of materials engineering
  • Background in industrial operations
  • Ability to help develop, test, evaluate, and eventually qualify repair procedures either in the laboratory or via vendors and shipyards
  • Excellent individual initiative and creativity
