Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3 - 8 years of related engineering experience
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills and ability to multitask
  • Intermediate experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Strong working knowledge of parametric modeling, Creo preferred
  • Basic knowledge of FEA, CFD, Moldflow, and motion analysis
  • Considerable knowledge of plastic injection molding including design-for-manufacturing principles, tooling considerations, material behavior, process limitations, and defect prevention.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication processes, such as, machining, metal forming, die-casting, plating, laser cutting, and 3D printing
  • Understanding of material properties of plastics, metals, and plating
  • Ability to understand product requirements as they relate to customer needs
  • Data driven design analysis using tools such as DOE, SPC, Gauge R&R, etc
  • Experience in product design for industrial applications such as chemical resistance, robust sealing, high vibration, etc
  • Experience planning and leading small to medium size projects
  • Exposure to advanced assembly techniques, such as automation, SMD, COB, ultrasonic welding, laser welding, insert/over molding, and epoxy encapsulation
  • Working knowledge of metrology and associated equipment (CMM, Calipers, thread gauges, drop gages, etc)

Responsibilities

  • Working on cross functional engineering project teams, taking ownership of the mechanical design of new and existing industrial electronic products from the concept phase to release
  • Leverage your existing part design knowledge (injection molding, extruding, machining, etc) to design products that meet environmental criteria (IP, shock, vibration) and are designed for assembly
  • Validate these product designs by developing and executing product testing plans
  • Supporting customer applications by verifying application feasibility or investigating application issues
  • Developing detailed designs and documentation, including tolerance analysis, for collaboration with suppliers in the DFM process
  • Using tools and hands-on experimentation to explore design considerations
  • Performing tolerance stack analyses, advanced hand calculations, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and failure analyses
  • Creating and managing product documentation including bill of materials (BOMs), design verification reports, dimensional prints, and engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Translating compliance regulations set forth by various agencies, such as CE, UL, etc into product design details
  • Resolving part and process issues by working with quality engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers
  • Working with global suppliers on qualifying mechanical parts made from a variety of processes including injection molding, machining, metal-forming, and die-casting
  • Documenting product specifications, generating concept ideas, and assists with concept selection based on rating criteria
  • Performing and documenting qualification tests to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Other duties as assigned
