We are seeking a collaborative and solutions-focused Mechanical Engineer – R&D, Elevator Door Systems to join our Engineering Product Development team at Vantage Elevation. You’ll play a hands-on role in the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of mechanical hardware and components for elevator door systems, helping deliver quality, safety, and reliability across our products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 2–4 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, preferably within a product development, R&D, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
  • Experience designing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through testing and production implementation.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Inventor a plus), 2D CAD, and the preparation of detailed engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), engineering drawings, and mechanical design standards.
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, material selection, and mechanical component design.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, casting, and/or assembly.
  • Experience developing and executing product testing and validation plans.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, codes, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong technical documentation skills, including experience with engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and engineering change documentation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and other functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability and willingness to develop a thorough understanding of elevator systems, particularly elevator door systems and equipment, applicable elevator codes, and certification requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the elevator industry or with electro-mechanical equipment is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and validate mechanical components, assemblies, and hardware for elevator door systems and equipment.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), and other technical documentation.
  • Develop mechanical designs using 3D CAD software and ensure designs meet functional, performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Lean principles throughout the product development process.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis to support design decisions and verify product performance.
  • Develop prototypes, coordinate testing, analyze test results, and recommend design improvements based on findings.
  • Support R&D and product development activities from initial concept and design through validation, certification, and production implementation.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of elevator systems, with a focus on elevator door equipment, mechanical interfaces, system operation, and product applications.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable elevator codes, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and product certification requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Provide technical and engineering support to manufacturing facilities, including troubleshooting production issues and identifying appropriate corrective actions.
  • Investigate product and component failures, perform root cause analysis, and develop effective corrective and preventive solutions.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve product quality, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and overall performance.
  • Evaluate existing products and designs and recommend modifications to improve functionality, simplify manufacturing, or address obsolescence.
  • Support engineering change processes, including preparation and implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to address technical requirements, component specifications, quality concerns, and design changes.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, testing activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for new product introductions (NPI) and the transition of new or modified products into manufacturing.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and ensure product documentation remains current throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Perform other engineering-related duties and projects as assigned.
