About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer III designs new products that satisfy customer needs and Product Management requirements identified in the Product Specifications Document (PSD), following the established New Product Development (NPD) process. The role covers mechanical design and product reliability activities from industrial design concept through production release. The engineer develops mechanical designs for parts, subassemblies, and subsystems; creates and maintains engineering models and documentation; and uses PLM tools to manage CAD files and new part numbers. The role collaborates with testing, project management, industrial design, model-making, and operations teams to ensure designs meet safety, performance, durability, schedule, cost, corporate identity, and manufacturability requirements. It also uses predictive engineering analyses, supports resource planning, coordinates FMEA, and leads NPD projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD design.
  • Strong knowledge of technical drafting, GD&T, and stack-up tolerancing analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for metals and plastics.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical properties of common materials.
  • Knowledge of mechanism design, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, mechanical vibrations, and power transmission.
  • Ability to create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and extensive, highly detailed spreadsheets.
  • General knowledge of basic electrical circuits, electronics, and mechatronics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Inventor, the preferred CAD system.

Responsibilities

  • Use CAD systems to develop mechanical designs for parts, subassemblies, and subsystems for new products.
  • Create and maintain 2D drawings and 3D models of engineering designs.
  • Generate design engineering documentation, including 3D models, engineering drawings, charts, spreadsheets, and simulation and testing results reports.
  • Use the PLM system to manage CAD files and set up new part numbers.
  • Work with testing engineers to ensure designs comply with applicable safety regulations and performance and durability requirements.
  • Provide input for schedules and workloads within areas of responsibility.
  • Work with project managers to support adherence to timelines, material and labor costs, and other PSD product requirements and goals.
  • Provide detailed information on how time is utilized for resource planning.
  • Support model makers in constructing mock-ups and prototypes.
  • Work with Industrial Design to meet corporate identity and design guidelines.
  • Work with Operations to ensure designs are manufacturable and comply with Karcher Production System global standards.
  • Use predictive tools such as FEA, static and dynamic analysis, and CFD.
  • Understand financial and budgeting metrics involved in the NPD process.
  • Perform assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Conduct and coordinate FMEA for products under development.
  • Lead NPD projects.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • 11 paid holidays per year.
  • Flexible PTO for exempt employees and generous PTO for non-exempt employees.
  • HSA and FSA plans.
  • 401(k) matching plan.
  • Paid sick time.
