About The Position

Engineers will support design, test, and construction efforts for the LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Classes of Submarines. There are three functional areas providing engineering support for submarine safety (SUBSAFE) requirements, underwater explosion (UNDEX) large vehicle shock test programs and fastener engineering. Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables.

Requirements

  • BS/MS/Technical degree in mechanical or marine engineering
  • 5+ years engineering experience
  • Willingness to work nights or weekends when needed to support schedules
  • Position may require travel
  • Possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work performed on submarines comply with all SUBSAFE requirements, including conducting internal audits, training, developing “Design Review Procedure” booklets, developing class and ship design reports, developing and maintaining class SUBSAFE test form certification lists, developing the class submarine sea trail certification booklet/SUBSAFE certification audit plan, reviewing the submarine safety certification boundary book, as well as monitoring SUBSAFE deviations and waivers.
  • Responsible for the concept, design, procurement, fabrication and installation of equipment into various underwater shock test vehicles.
  • Support test operations at a government shock test site and documentation of the test results for Shock Vehicle Test Programs.
  • Responsible for fastener issues associated with design and construction.
  • Provide guidance on calculation methods, drawing and specification requirements and fastener applications that include whole ship and company fastener issues.
