About The Position

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is seeking an Early Career Mechanical Engineer for the Lone Tree, CO office. The role involves establishing, maintaining, and improving company standards and tools, and utilizing them for project success. The engineer will gain experience in mechanical or process engineering, with potential specialization in areas such as biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, storm water recycling, process piping, industrial boilers and chillers, or other industrial facilities and equipment. Candidates should be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software, with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Flexibility in work assignments and a growth mindset are essential for developing technical and professional skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of various mechanical systems for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities, including process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, steam, and gas systems. This includes preparing calculations for pressurized and gravity-driven systems to size lines, select materials, and apply Code requirements.
  • Prepare design calculations and equipment specifications for systems related to biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities, including bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
  • Review project contracts, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual documents and incorporate them into the design to ensure project goals are met or exceeded.
  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment used in biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities.
  • Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support the construction team by representing the design team on-site, answering RFIs, and providing creative design solutions.
  • Coordinate with other design partners (internal and external), including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers, and review work progress and results.
  • Assist in developing schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Perform early project design work, including conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project or department development.
