About The Position

We are currently in search of a Mechanical Engineer to join our Research and Development department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA). The Mechanical Engineer leads the development of automotive interior switches from concept through production launch. This role requires product development experience, proficiency with Siemens NX CAD software, knowledge of GD&T principles, and an understanding of simulation and testing methodologies. The ideal candidate possesses automotive design and manufacturing knowledge, takes ownership of assigned projects, and leads product development from concept through launch while collaborating with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
3 to 7 years of mechanical product development experience, preferably in the automotive industry
Proficiency in Siemens NX 3D CAD software is required.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, plastics, and high-volume injection molding
Experience with DFMEA, DFM, and other engineering quality tools
Experience with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies
Ability to interpret simulation results such as FEA, illumination, and thermal analyses
Proficiency in engineering calculations including tolerance stack-ups, free body diagrams, and stress/force analysis
Ability to support testing activities, troubleshoot issues, and analyze results
Demonstrated ability to independently manage engineering tasks and lead assigned projects
Experience working effectively within cross-functional teams
Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to build effective working relationships with peers, suppliers, customers, and project team members
Strong technical writing and documentation skills
Ability to understand and execute detailed instructions in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed required (~10%)

Nice To Haves

Experience with CATIA V5 in addition to Siemens NX is preferred

Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical engineering activities for assigned projects throughout the product lifecycle
Develop designs, drawings, and specifications necessary to support the development of new products and modifications to existing products
Develop mechanical engineering requirements based on system specifications and customer expectations with support from senior engineering staff as required
Investigate product and design issues and implement practical, cost-effective solutions, seeking guidance on complex technical challenges when needed
Perform and interpret engineering calculations including kinematic analysis, performance analysis, stress analysis, and tolerance studies
Conduct engineering validation testing, support DV and PV testing activities, interpret results, and implement design improvements
Collaborate with industrial engineers, tooling engineers, manufacturing personnel, and suppliers in the development of production equipment and component tooling
Develop and maintain project schedules and engineering deliverables for assigned program
Prepare and deliver customer presentations related to new designs, product changes, and engineering updates
Coordinate engineering activities across cross-functional teams to support program objectives
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support the development of engineering best practices.
