Mechanical Engineer - Tool Hookup

SamsungTaylor, TX

About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer – Tool Hookup Scope is responsible for the design, integration, installation, and commissioning of mechanical utility connections to advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This role bridges the gap between facilities infrastructure and process tools, ensuring that complex process piping, exhaust systems, ultra-pure water (UPW), and bulk/specialty gas distribution systems meet rigorous high-volume manufacturing (HVM) standards. The successful candidate will oversee the complete lifecycle of tool installation, driving safety, quality, schedule, and cost efficiency within a fast-paced foundry environment.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of SEMI S2/S8 safety and ergonomic guidelines, as well as FM (Factory Global) and NFPA codes.
  • Strong technical knowledge of orbital welding processes, stainless steel piping configurations, and ultra-high-purity (UHP) gas/chemical delivery.
  • Proficiency in calculating pressure drops, flow rates, and exhaust ventilation static pressure requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD and other related digital software (e.g., AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks) for spatial coordination and clash detection.
  • Strict adherence to and enforcement of cleanroom construction protocols, protocols for material entry, and contamination control.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing third-party mechanical contractors, gas/chemical suppliers, and international tool vendors.
  • Strong analytical mindset to quickly troubleshoot field interference issues or utility capacity bottlenecks under tight schedules.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to present technical concepts clearly to both executive leadership and field technicians.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-stress, rapidly changing construction environment with shifting factory priorities.
  • Basic familiarity with project scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6 or MS Project) and cost-estimation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate tool vendor installation matrices and generate or review detailed hookup designs, including P&IDs, 3D BIM models, and isometric drawings.
  • Assess and verify tool-level utility requirements against existing sub-fab and main fab utility capacities (e.g., process cooling water, high-vacuum, scrubbed exhaust).
  • Oversee mechanical contractors during the installation of ultra-clean and high-purity piping, ensuring adherence to strict QA/QC standards.
  • Witness and approve pressure, leak, and analytical testing (e.g., helium leak testing, moisture/oxygen particle counters) for high-purity gas and chemical delivery lines.
  • Partner with FAB Engineering, Facilities Operations, EHS, and Equipment Vendors to ensure seamless tool integration and minimize factory downtime.
  • Manage the Request for Information (RFI) and Field Change Order (FCO) processes to resolve design conflicts during execution.
  • Lead the mechanical sign-off for Tool Matrix Verification, ensuring compliance with SEMI standards before handing tools over to production.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and 401(k) matching with immediate vesting
  • Onsite café(s) and workout facilities
  • Paid maternity and paternity leave
  • Paid time off (PTO) + 2 personal holidays and 10 regular holidays
  • Wellness incentives
