About The Position

Gravitics is seeking Mechanical Engineers with expertise in structures to join their team. The role involves working on the full product lifecycle of challenging assemblies, including pressurized structures, launch adapters, mechanisms, and tooling, for large-scale orbital structures that support commercial, defense, and government missions. The company is building the infrastructure for a space economy and enabling humanity to flourish beyond Earth.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated past ownership of complex projects
  • Knowledge of loads such as pressure, vibration, shock, thermal, and how to design for them
  • 2+ years of industry experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • Familiarity with CAD and Analysis packages such as NX and Simcenter 3D or similar
  • Strong understanding and application of drafting standards and GD&T (ASME Y14.5) in creating drawings
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • A proven history of successful hardware in launch vehicles or space systems
  • Experience working with safety critical systems, pressure vessels, docking/berthing and/or deployment mechanisms
  • Experience with writing and executing on structural test plans
  • Deep working knowledge in analysis of welds and other joints, design for manufacturability, and heat treat properties

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed component and assembly drawings incorporating an understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups
  • Apply first-order hand calculations and empirical formulas to assess and iterate on designs rapidly
  • Build finite element models to assess designs in detail and analyze structures to prove they meet vehicle needs
  • Own the design, development, and implementation of custom tooling in support of programs
  • Work with suppliers and the manufacturing team to realize designs, including managing schedule/budget for owned structural hardware and tracking/dispositioning non-conformances
  • Serve as a reliable expert of the system, from concept to mission control console
