About The Position

Lead oversight and technical guidance of project engineering solutions for mechanical and plumbing systems in commercial/industrial buildings. This role involves corroborating and coordinating with other design team members, including clients and site/civil and electrical engineers, to ensure systems are integrated with the project’s goals. The position leads the design, design oversight, and execution of HVAC, plumbing & process piping for infrastructure. Responsibilities include developing and coordinating system reliability plans through assessments, design review, and power system studies. The role involves developing detailed engineering designs for systems, including the review, selection, and specification of air handlers, exhaust fans, compressors, vacuum pumps, and plumbing fixtures. It also includes reviewing and designing in-house and outside consultant work, executing mechanical designs in accordance with company and client standards, and maintaining a strong understanding of applicable Codes and Standards. Value engineering and buildability improvements that impact building performance are key. The role supports feasibility studies, detailed designs, and commissioning for major infrastructure, providing high-quality technical review and occasional outputs such as layouts, specifications, datasheets, and P&IDs. Equipment sizing and specification across pumps, blowers, valves, screening, dosing, and odour control systems are required, along with site investigations and engagement with internal contractors and suppliers. Early integration of constructability and commissioning into design solutions is also a focus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 15+ years’ experience and designing electrical systems in high performance facilities.
  • Proficient in computer use and software’s including but not limited to; AutoCAD, Revit, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Navisworks.
  • Communication skills sufficient to work directly with directors, managers, and customers, so professionalism is necessary.
  • Background in engineering design of electrical systems as well as the components of distribution.
  • Ability to use good judgement and make decisions with authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in execution of large-scale, multi-year capital projects.
  • Professional Engineering license is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success developing direct reports through effective leadership and the setting of realistic but challenging goals.
  • Experience with construction and renovation projects.
  • Aerospace and defense industry requiring adherence to specific ICDs and DoD construction standards is a plus.
  • Proficiency with construction design software solutions such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam Revu.
