Mechanical Engineer, Robotics

FluidstackAustin, TX
$203,000 - $232,000

About The Position

Fluidstack is building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI by delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else. This involves rethinking every layer of the stack, from acquiring power to designing and operating data centers with teams spanning hardware and software. The company emphasizes extreme ownership, autonomy, velocity, first principles thinking, and a passion for the problem space. This role focuses on the mechanical engineering aspects of data center robotics, including end effectors, docking, and interfaces between robots and plant equipment. The goal is to design the physical integration of robots with equipment designed for humans, enabling them to handle, mate with, and service these systems. The role involves rapid prototyping, rigorous testing, and productionizing reliable hardware for unattended operation, with a strong emphasis on DFM and spares.

Requirements

  • Designed mechanical systems for robotics, automation, or mechatronics products.
  • Taken hardware from prototype through reliability testing.
  • Design interfaces and tolerances that survive the real world.
  • Test to failure on purpose and instrument everything.
  • Work in fast loops with controls and software.

Nice To Haves

  • End effector and gripper design.
  • GD&T depth.
  • DFM at low volume.
  • Server and rack hardware familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer the mechanical side of data center robotics: end effectors, docking, and interfaces between robots and plant.
  • Design the physical integration: how robots handle, mate with, and service equipment designed for humans.
  • Prototype fast and test hard: concepts to instrumented trials in weeks.
  • Productionize what works: DFM, reliability, and spares for hardware that runs unattended.

Benefits

  • Pay equity and transparency
