About The Position

CyrusOne seeks a Mechanical Engineer, Operations Engineering to support data center operations by applying mechanical engineering best practices across cooling, HVAC, and water systems. This role focuses on execution, analysis, and operational support. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with Senior Engineers, Operations, and Facilities teams to ensure mechanical systems perform reliably, efficiently, and safely. This position supports the operation, improvement, and lifecycle management of mechanical infrastructure that enables critical IT environments.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in data centers, critical facilities, industrial plants, or commercial facilities.
  • Exposure to mission-critical environments is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, cooling technologies, chilled water systems, and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Ability to analyze system performance data and identify practical solutions to operational issues.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a structured approach to problem resolution.
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including operations, electrical, controls, and facilities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in plain language.
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience supporting HVAC, cooling systems, chilled water plants, and mechanical infrastructure in high-reliability environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, evaluation, and modification of mechanical systems supporting data center operations, including HVAC, cooling, and thermal management.
  • Review mechanical designs and provide technical input under the direction of Senior Engineers.
  • Support day-to-day operational issues related to mechanical systems by analyzing failures, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting HVAC, chilled water, and cooling system performance issues.
  • Analyze mechanical system performance data and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Support implementation of system improvements and minor upgrades across operational sites.
  • Assist with capacity planning activities by evaluating mechanical system limitations and supporting upgrades needed for increased load.
  • Coordinate with electrical, controls, and facilities teams to support site growth and changes.
  • Support energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives by identifying practical opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting of mechanical-related efficiency metrics.
  • Support capital and operational projects from design review through installation and commissioning.
  • Participate in site walks, factory witness testing, commissioning activities, and post-install reviews as needed.
  • Work with vendors and contractors during installation, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure work meets specifications and site requirements.
  • Review submittations, scopes of work, and technical documentation under guidance of senior staff.
  • Ensure mechanical systems and work practices align with company standards, safety requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Support documentation updates, including drawings, operating procedures, and maintenance recommendations.
