About The Position

Sedgman is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer (Materials Handling) to join our growing team in Vancouver BC. The ideal candidate will have experience working on the design, analysis and optimization of ore handling systems in mining/heavy industrial projects, including storage, crushing, screening, conveying, stockpiling and reclaiming.   Work includes conceptual design and studies through to detailed design. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Materials Handling highly desired)
  • Have between 5-8 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical / Materials Handling engineer on mining or heavy industrial projects.
  • Will be a registered engineer with EGBC (P. Engineer in British Colombia); or eligible to register; 
  • Relevant experience in the design of bulk handling, conveyors or automated systems is required. 
  • Proficiency in CAD software required ( AutoCAD, Plant3D, Solidworks); ASME Code knowledge considered an asset.
  • Ability to safely and effectively self-manage time, priorities and activities
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills; will be self-motivated, quick to deliver on projects
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail 
  • Will have excellent communication skills; strong, oral, verbal and written English; French is considered an asset.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and deliver mechanical material handling solutions for mining / industrial facilities, across multiple sustaining capital projects.
  • Develop designs for ore handling equipment, bins, crushing and conveying systems, and stockpiles. 
  • Evaluating existing systems to improve efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and lower costs.
  • Oversee layout drafting and 3D modelling through basic and detailed design phases
  • Contribute to proposals, scope development, and continuous design improvements.
  • Design of process and mechanical equipment including design and selection of static and rotating equipment; Define and recommend design methods, specifications and performance of functional requirements for new projects. 
  • Prepare technical specifications, datasheets, requisitions and perform technical bid evaluations of process and mechanical equipment
  • Provide engineering support to the project teams in line with management direction whilst maximising individual and teams utilisation. 
  • Produce and monitor engineering work hour budgets during concept, study, tender and detailed design stage as required. 
  • Ensure project time and cost KPI’s are met - monitor effectiveness of designs, scheduling of work, resource requirements and review compliance with project execution plan (schedule) and client expectations. 
  • Project Manager for discipline lead projects as assigned
  • Build and maintain client relationships and respond to client requests, travel to various client sites, attend project meetings and conduct field reviews as required
