About The Position

Textron Systems is seeking a full-time Principal level Mechanical Engineer to join our Advanced Programs team in supporting strategic weapon system technical design solutions. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, development, production, and deployment of advanced payload technologies. The position requires collaboration with customers, senior technical advisors, fellow engineers, and suppliers to deliver multidisciplined solutions under dynamic work environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • 9+ years of experience in a relevant field (reduced with an advanced degree)
  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Ability to obtain a Special Access Program (SAP) approval
  • Experience with CAD modeling of electro-mechanical solutions designs (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), materials selection, and manufacturing processes
  • Proficient technical communication and presentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with designing for aircraft, spacecraft, or launch environments preferred
  • Experience with performing static and dynamic analysis preferred
  • Proven capability to guide an engineering team or peers and influence key technical choices (Experience in leading an interdisciplinary team through concept creation preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical solutions for pure mechanical and electro-mechanical designs on technology demonstrations, opportunities, and new business programs
  • Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical solutions for launch vehicle payloads and their associated ground and support equipment
  • Create CAD models and 3D drawings, specifications, and interface control drawings for complex assemblies and their constituent subassemblies and components
  • Contribute to every stage of the system development process, spanning concept design, technical drawings, manufacturing, testing, installation, operation, and ongoing support.
  • Create component and system designs and perform early‑stage sizing along with stress and dynamic evaluations for aerospace structural elements.
  • Validate engineering requirements and designs by employing analytical models, simulations, test-data evaluation, and performance assessments.
  • Develop and deliver technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation, and engage directly with customers to support project communication.
  • Participate in internal program sessions, technical discussions with customers, and supplier briefings, and provide updates on design progress during key program reviews.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in mechanical design practices
