About The Position

Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern for their Lenexa, Kansas office. The ideal candidate will contribute to establishing, maintaining, and improving company standards and tools, and utilize these to ensure project success. Candidates should be familiar with current design documentation creation and layout tools, programs, and software. They should also be adaptable to changing work assignments and possess a growth mindset for continuous technical and professional development.

Requirements

  • Pursuing Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • GPA above 3.0 preferred
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for power plant systems including steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of design calculations and specifications for major power plant related equipment including, but not limited to, combustion turbines, steam turbines, boilers, condensers, cooling towers, and pumps.
  • Assist in preparing mechanical engineering designs, including layout, design sketches, and conceptual design.
  • Coordinate with other drafters, designers, and engineers assigned to the project or a task and review work progress and results.
