About The Position

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern in the Lenexa, Kansas office. The ideal candidate will contribute to establishing, maintaining, and improving company standards and tools, and utilize these to ensure project success. Candidates should be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software, with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Flexibility in work assignments and a growth mindset are essential for developing technical and professional skills.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.

Nice To Haves

  • GPA above 3.0 preferred.
  • Familiarity with AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of various mechanical systems for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities, including process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, steam, and gas systems.
  • Assist in preparing design calculations and equipment specifications for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities, including bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
  • Collaborate with the team in preparing and reviewing design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support coordination efforts with various design partners, both internal and external, including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task, and review work progress and results.
