About The Position

CMTA, a Legence company, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern/Co-op for Summer 2027 in their Energy Solutions division. This is an immersive, hands-on experience in Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPCs) for college students pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree. The program offers the opportunity to build competitive industry skills by working collaboratively with full-time engineers under the supervision of Professional Engineers. The goal is to develop students into full-time caliber employees. The program is designed for co-ops to take on challenging projects and gain diverse experiences across all stages of ESPC development, from initial identification of energy savings measures to implementation. Co-ops can expect to gain experience with photovoltaic systems, LED lighting designs, HVAC systems like geothermal, and building automation systems, preparing them for a career in the Energy Service Company (ESCO) industry.

Requirements

  • Must have undergrad degree in engineering from ABET accredited university
  • CAD experience is helpful but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to travel locally for field work
  • Minimum GPA 3.39
  • Must have current work authorization in the U.S.; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all aspects of the project development phase – including site visits, building audits, energy calculations
  • Generate energy models and perform calculations to evaluate feasibility of energy savings measures identified
  • Produce detailed construction documents using CAD
  • Assemble organized sets of project drawings and documents
  • Collect and analyze energy data, often involving field verification
  • Work collaboratively with designers and professional engineers to develop all aspects of a project
