About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer – Industrial/Manufacturing Expert at Robson Forensic, you will leverage your P.E. license, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and over 10 years of hands-on manufacturing and production experience to investigate incidents. You will apply your comprehensive understanding of plant and/or process engineering, machine guarding, and industrial safety to analyze equipment failures, safety procedures, material handling, tools, and plant layouts. This role involves analyzing inadequacies in machine guarding, instructions, warnings, or personal protective equipment (PPE), and applying your knowledge of standards and practices. You will be responsible for writing clear, scientifically sound reports and providing expert testimony. The position offers a chance to use your cumulative training, experience, and critical thinking skills, collaborate with respected experts, continuously learn and grow, and make a tangible difference by delving into the 'why' behind incidents and critically assessing decision-making, operational procedures, and the standard of care.

Requirements

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain licensure in at least one state within 6 months.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering and/or a closely-related field.
  • 10+ years of manufacturing and production experience, including design, installation, start-up, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting spanning a variety of industrial equipment.
  • Expertise must include design or specification of industrial equipment, material handling equipment (such as forklifts, aerial lifts, and cranes), industrial facility operation and maintenance processes, utility systems (steam, water, air, gas, etc.), and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of 40-60 projects/clients.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, objective evidence for non-technical audiences.
  • Approximately 20% travel for inspections.
  • Must have a clean background screen, a driver’s license, and the ability to drive.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and training in reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
  • Experience and training in failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience and training in root cause failure analysis.
  • Experience and training in site incident investigations.
  • Experience and training in hazard analysis/risk assessments.
  • Prior forensic experience is not required, but professionals eager to apply their deep industry knowledge to a challenging new domain are sought.
