Mechanical Engineer III

Briggs & StrattonCity of Sherrill, NY
$80,000 - $130,000

About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer III you will perform a variety of complex engineering duties to design, develop, and oversee the production of integrated electro-mechanical systems, sheet metal components, and electronic devices. This role bridges the gap between physical fabrication and electronic control systems under minimal guidance. The ideal candidate will apply advanced mechanical design and manufacturing techniques alongside solid electrical systems design to evaluate project progress, troubleshoot product failures, and optimize product lines for a heavy industrial/manufacturing setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field required
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional engineering experience, ideally within a heavy industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering concepts, internal standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software for both mechanical structures and electrical/electronic systems.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical/electronic control circuits, power systems, and electronic components.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes, with specialized emphasis on sheet metal and industrial fabrication.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific standards, regulations, and competitor product capabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address varied and complex technical challenges.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and written communication skills, specifically for technical report writing and cross-departmental collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop integrated electro-mechanical assemblies, systems, and sheet metal components/enclosures.
  • Create detailed CAD drawings, electrical schematics, layouts, and specifications for new or existing products.
  • Apply computer-aided engineering analysis techniques to evaluate designs and resolve complex engineering or customer concerns.
  • Adhere to the New Product Development (NPD) process, managing tasks from concept analysis and business case development through pre-production and post-launch steps.
  • Design testing methods and standards to confirm mechanical and electrical system capabilities and material properties.
  • Conduct and specify complex tests using advanced techniques to evaluate product performance and resolve customer problems.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot product failures using root-cause engineering analysis techniques; compile test results to formulate recommendations and technical reports.
  • Modify engineering analysis techniques when necessary to solve highly complex, non-standard problems.
  • Recommend methods of manufacture during the design phase, proposing design modifications or process changes based on cost, material, and design studies.
  • Identify and recommend improvements for sequence of operations, fabrication workflows, equipment utilization, and related manufacturing matters.
  • Partner with supply chain and vendors to evaluate the technical abilities of suppliers and source components effectively.
  • Act as a technical liaison between engineering, project management, business units, manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain.
