About The Position

This role is for a Mechanical Engineer III who will be responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs for small and large mechanical engineering assignments, utilizing theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. The work will be performed under general supervision. The primary responsibilities include supporting site management with contractor oversight and contract administration, field coordination of activities, and administrative tasks related to contract documentation. This involves managing project specifications, drawings, general conditions, and special conditions. The role also requires ensuring contractor adherence to site safety procedures, including behavior-based safety (BBS) and Stop Work Authority (SWA) programs, as well as participating in Southern Safety Trilateral (SST) front-line supervisor training. Quality procedures and programs must also be adhered to, including participation in a quality surveillance program. Daily activities and contractor interactions need to be documented in Unifier. The engineer will attend project meetings, interpret technical specifications and drawings, coordinate material and equipment deliveries, and complete necessary deliverables. A key responsibility is ensuring contractors follow LOTO and confined space procedures, acting as the Purchaser's representative for LOTO execution. The role involves assisting the Purchaser with developing scopes of work, year-end contractor evaluations, contract closeout activities, and invoice validation. Daily activities must be coordinated to support the project, and the engineer must be able to respond to site/project conditions with minimal direction. Immediate reporting of incidents, unsafe conditions, or unusual activities to the Purchaser's onsite representative is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of design standards and codes.
  • Knowledge, application and specification of piping materials.
  • Development of piping material and material procurement specifications.
  • Knowledge of good design practices for sizing all piping systems.
  • Sizing of compressible fluid piping systems.
  • Flexibility and stress analysis of moderately complex piping systems.
  • Specify criteria for and select piping specialty items.
  • Design of moderately complex process and utility piping systems.
  • Knowledge of manual valve sizing, use and application.
  • Knowledge of application of piping supports and restraints.
  • Identification of need, application and specification of safety valves and devices to maintain the mechanical integrity of piping systems.
  • Identification of need, application and specification of steam traps and liquid drainers.
  • Estimating piping related construction quantities from conceptual documents.
  • Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of design efforts.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of the discipline specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Support site management with contractor oversight and contract administration.
  • Perform field coordination of activities and administrative tasks related to contract documentation in Purchaser’s Unifier.
  • Ensure onsite contractor adherence to site safety procedures and programs, including behavior-based safety (BBS) program.
  • Adhere to and participate in the Purchaser’s Stop Work Authority (SWA) program.
  • Adhere to and participate in Southern Safety Trilateral (SST) front-line supervisor training.
  • Ensure onsite contractor adherence to site quality procedures and programs, including participation in quality surveillance program.
  • Document daily activities and interactions with contractors through the Daily Log form in Unifier.
  • Attend and participate in necessary Project meetings.
  • Become familiar with and interpret technical specifications and drawings related to the scope of work being overseen.
  • Coordinate and facilitate receipt of material and/or equipment delivery.
  • Complete necessary deliverables as defined by individual role or directed by Purchaser’s onsite representatives.
  • Ensure contractors follow and adhere to all LOTO and confirmed space procedures, including serving as Purchaser’s representative for LOTO execution.
  • Assist the Purchaser with development of scopes of work for competitive inquiries.
  • Assist the Purchaser in year-end contractor evaluations for the work being overseen.
  • Assist the Purchaser in contract closeout activities for the work being overseen.
  • Assist the Purchaser in invoice validation for the work being overseen.
  • Coordinate daily activities to support the Project with Purchaser’s onsite representatives.
  • Understand role/responsibilities and respond to site/project conditions on behalf of the Purchaser’s onsite representatives in a timely manner with minimal direction or supervision.
  • Immediately report any incidents, unsafe conditions, unusual activities, or otherwise unforeseen circumstances to the Purchaser’s onsite representative.
