About The Position

Performs mechanical engineering assignments involving the application of a comprehensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.

Requirements

  • Required to possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and be registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer by the State of Illinois or have a combination of education and experience relating to this position.
  • Must have prior experience in an intermediate mechanical engineering position, involving mechanical and electro-mechanical projects
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical design necessary in the development of specifications, drawings, cost estimates, technical reports and work schedules.
  • Must possess skills necessary for competency in the evaluation, selection and application of engineering principles.
  • Required to have a comprehensive knowledge of applicable construction codes required by federal, state and local rules and regulations.
  • Required to have a comprehensive knowledge of mathematics as it relates to mechanical engineering.
  • Must write and express oneself in a clear, concise and comprehensive manner.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates mechanical and electro-mechanical projects relating to the repair, remodeling and maintenance of buildings, equipment and other related plant facilities involving complex factors.
  • Responsible for the results of extensive mechanical engineering projects which require the use of advanced techniques.
  • Acts in a liaison capacity between municipal agencies, contractors, consultants and other firms.
  • Gathers and analyzes pertinent information and provides logical, comprehensive solutions.
  • Conducts field investigations, inspections, and tests relative to plant facilities.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports relating to inspections.
  • Prepares detailed sketches, drawings, cost estimates, specifications and technical reports by applying engineering and mathematical principles and techniques.
  • Coordinates and reviews the work of a small staff of lower level engineers, draftsmen, and clerical personnel.
  • Estimates manpower needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records of current and future projects, work schedules, and status reports.
