The Air Defense Ground Equipment Mechanical Design Department is responsible for the mechanical design, development, and integration of critical defense platform systems. This includes radar and communications shelters, electronic subsystems, launchers, hardware integration, and system interconnects. We are currently seeking a motivated and driven Mechanical Engineer II to join our Ground Equipment Design Team. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, mechanical hardware design experience, system integration skills, and a strong background in program execution and production support. As a key contributor on a mechanical or cross-functional engineering team, you will be responsible for component and assembly modeling, documentation, design changes, and release processes.

Requirements

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree.
Experience Collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
Experience participating in design reviews, driving action-item closure, and conducting engineering trade studies.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage engineering tasks and deliver against technical, schedule, and cost commitments.
Hands-on experience with 3D CAD and Product Data Management (PDM) systems; experience with Creo, SolidWorks, or NX is preferred.
Experience with independently managing tasks to deliver on technical/scheduling and cost commitments.
Experience supporting product development throughout the engineering lifecycle, from concept through production.

Nice To Haves

Experience investigating and resolving manufacturing or supplier change requests, including developing rework and modification procedures to support product updates.
Experience supporting the full product lifecycle—from concept and detailed design through production release and post-production support—for ground-based defense systems and effectors.
Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related hardware systems discipline.
Experience with electronic packaging design, including subsystems, modules, CCAs, PWBs, and interconnects supporting RF, digital, and power systems.
Knowledge of electronic assembly integration, shelters, racks, power distribution units, military and commercial specifications, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), ECAD processes, cables and harnesses, and material selection and finishes.
Proficiency with Creo CAD and technical documentation.
Experience with Windchill PDM or similar configuration and data management systems.
Familiarity with configuration control and engineering change management processes.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong self-direction, prioritization, and multitasking skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 10% of the time.
Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team development and technical growth.

Responsibilities

Investigate and resolve change requests from manufacturing or suppliers

Support the full product lifecycle from concept definition through detailed design, release to production, and post-production support of Ground Based Defense System including Effectors.
Work closely with other engineering disciplines, non-technical functions, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges
Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to inform technical decisions
Manage tasks independently and ensure timely delivery of technical, schedule, and financial commitments
Mentor and support less experienced engineers, contributing to team development and technical growth
