About The Position

Verathon is looking for a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Visualization Business Unit (VBU) R&D Team in their Burnaby, BC office. This role involves contributing to the design, development, and manufacturing of medical devices, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and making a difference in the healthcare industry.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of technical product or mechanical device design and manufacturing.
  • Bachelor and / or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Intermediate knowledge of and ability to use SolidWorks and SolidWorks add-ins.
  • Experience in all areas of design, prototyping, testing, and qualification.
  • Experience with plastic injection mold tool design including insert molding and overmolding an asset.
  • Skills in developing projects in a medical device R&D department preferred.
  • Experience in a technical team-focused workplace.
  • Use sound engineering principles and techniques to help senior engineers.
  • Ability to write concisely and accurately with meticulous attention to detail and clarity.

  • EIT status preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Research design options and perform experiments to determine potential design feasibility.
  • Develop and test new manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with electrical and software engineers, designing with a system-wide perspective.
  • Interact with global and internal design and manufacturing resources to design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Specify and manage tool development.
  • Create and release Product Requirements, Design Specifications, and Design Descriptions for assigned projects, as required by applicable medical device standards and internal procedures.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and standards for engineering documentation to ensure compliance with corporate document management policy.
  • Review product documentation for accuracy, including documentation intended for customer use.
  • Assist senior engineers in designing, prototyping, testing, and qualification of mechanical designs for high-reliability and high-performance medical devices.
  • Support production activities and resolve issues quickly.
  • Evaluate product non-conformances and recommend design modifications.
  • Support the development of intellectual property.
