About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for researching, planning, and designing stations and machines using calculations, mechanical principals, and proven practices to create semi/fully automated assembly and test systems. This role involves working within design hour, schedule, and budget constraints, collaborating with a team to ensure cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements, and developing concepts to confirm performance metrics. The engineer will design mechanisms and stations using 3D modeling software, work with vendors for quotes, create detailed fabrication and assembly drawings, and compile Bills of Material. The position may occasionally act as Project Engineer for smaller projects and will support fabrication, assembly, debug, and machine qualification activities. The role also requires adherence to safety procedures and maintaining a clean work area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in an automation related field, preferred.
  • Proficient in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • General knowledge of GD&T, EPDM and Jig and Fixture design.
  • Ability to calculate engineering formulas including deflection, moment of inertia, stress, along with applying concepts of algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply mechanical engineering principals.
  • Ability to interpret instructions which are written, oral or drawn.
  • Ability to concept mechanism and stations.
  • Make decisions to drive the design direction.

  • Relocation Assistance may be available for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze data such as customer request for quote, customer specifications, and PMD’s proposal to develop or determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Work within design hour constraints, schedule constraints, and overall machine budget constraints.
  • Work in a collaborative environment to make sure the designs developed are the most cost effective and will meet the customer’s requirements.
  • Develop/review concepts to confirm the design will meet required performance metrics including cycle time, yield, uptime, CPK and Gage R&R.
  • Design mechanisms, stations, machines using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks).
  • Works with vendors to obtain competitive quotes for major purchased components.
  • Create detailed fabrication drawings for all custom designed parts.
  • Create detailed assembly drawings identifying each individual component.
  • Create a complete Bill of Material for each design/station.
  • Release completed designs to Project Management.
  • Occasionally acts as Project Engineer on smaller projects.
  • Supports fabrication, assembly, debug and machine qualification activities to ensure design conforms to customer requirements and specifications.
