The Mechanical Engineer II role is part of the NPD team, focusing on designing products that have made SharkNinja a household name. This role involves owning real hardware, designing mechanisms, cutting parts, breaking prototypes, and iterating to improve designs. The company provides in-house labs, machine shops, and prototyping resources readily accessible to engineers. This position is located in Needham, MA, and is an on-site role requiring 4+ days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Approximately 2-4 years of experience in product development or design (candidates close to this range with relevant work are encouraged to apply).
  • Real hands-on prototyping experience, including building and testing physical hardware.
  • Experience designing for injection molded plastics or sheet metal for mass-produced products.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar).
  • Comfort with fast-moving, iterative work where requirements may evolve.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with consumer products, appliances, or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing, machining, and soft tooling.
  • Experience with simulation tools like FEA or CFD.
  • A portfolio for team review would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build new products from early concept through production, including mechanisms, electromechanical assemblies, and the integration of motors, sensors, actuators, PCBs, and controls.
  • Prototype rapidly using in-house labs, rapid prototyping tools, and supplier networks to quickly obtain functional hardware and iterate based on learnings.
  • Own hands-on troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for mechanisms, systems, or novel ideas that do not perform as expected.
  • Translate product requirements into CAD models, drawings, tolerances, and specifications for suppliers.
  • Drive design validation, reliability testing, and DFM/DFA to ensure product durability in real-world conditions.
  • Collaborate daily with Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Development, NPD, and test teams.
