About The Position

Be part of a Mechanical Engineering team responsible for providing engineering support for turbine, generator, and related mechanical equipment upgrade activities at Priest Rapids and Wanapum Hydro Power Generation facilities. This position provides engineering guidance to multiple work groups through disassembly, rehabilitation, and reassembly of the turbines and generators. This position also provides discipline-specific technical knowledge and expertise in support of safe, reliable, and efficient Power Production operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or engineering technology field.
  • A valid State driver’s license with no restrictions.
  • Engineer II: 1+ year of experience in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology field.
  • Engineer III: 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology field.
  • Engineer IV: 6+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology field.
  • Basic Understanding of hydro-generation mechanical equipment and supporting systems, including turbines, generators, governors, hydraulics, piping systems, pumps, compressors, HVAC, cranes, bearings, gear boxes as well as other supporting equipment that is required for the safe and reliable operation of turbine generator equipment.
  • Basic understanding of fabrication, materials, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
  • Familiar with piping systems, hydraulics, and heat exchangers.
  • Familiar with rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, bearings, and gearboxes.
  • Skills with computer aided drafting programs such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Troubleshooting, maintenance experience and optimization techniques related to rotating and fixed equipment.
  • Technical writing and ability to draft reports associated with performance of critical equipment and their impacts on operations and maintenance.
  • Generate, interpret, review and revise existing/new drawings
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of hydro-generation mechanical equipment and supporting systems, including turbines, generators, governors, hydraulics, piping system, pumps, compressors, HVAC, cranes, bearings, gearboxes, and related equipment required for safe and reliable facility operation.
  • Knowledgeable about fabrication, materials, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.

  • Advanced knowledge of hydro-generation equipment and supporting systems, including turbines, generators, governors, pumps, compressors, cranes, bearings, gearboxes, HVAC, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Advanced Skills with computer aided drafting programs such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter expert in at least 1 of the following areas: turbines, governors, cranes, piping Systems, HVAC, and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of Concepts, principles, theories, and methods surrounding engineering industry standards and best practices; project management tools and techniques; technical competencies with an attention toward detail; financial management philosophies.
  • Ability to perform work in the Field and work in Industrial Environments.
  • Skill in problem solving and thinking critically, written and oral communication, workflow and time management and utilizing Microsoft Office, GIS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks and other applicable software, tools and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement low impact mechanical projects in support of hydro generation mechanical systems, capital projects, maintenance activities, and equipment upgrades.
  • Researches, designs and supports implementation of new and upgraded mechanical equipment with considerable guidance from supervisors and senior engineers.
  • Provide project management support that includes budget forecasts, scheduling, coordination, construction/commissioning for small-sized projects.
  • Provide technical knowledge, when possible, to assist other Engineers, Maintenance Technicians, Operators or other departments throughout Power Production regarding troubleshooting, equipment outages, breakdowns or during detailed design of equipment based on knowledge and experience.
  • This position will gain knowledge in skills related to best industry practice, Utility Standards, Codes or other Legal Standards that will be used to support mechanical engineering projects and that are required for the safe and reliable operation of the equipment.
  • Develop and implement low/med impact mechanical projects throughout the Wanapum and Priest Rapids power generation facilitates and supporting facilities.
  • Researches, designs, and supports implementation of new and upgraded mechanical equipment with moderate guidance and increasing independent judgement.
  • Provides project management support that includes budget forecasts, scheduling, coordination, construction/commissioning for medium-sized projects.
  • High-level individual contributor (non-leadership) position in the Mechanical Engineering Group responsible for developing and implementing medium/high impact mechanical projects throughout the Wanapum and Priest Rapids power generation facilities and supporting facilities.
  • Serves as a technical expert for hydro-generation mechanical equipment and supporting systems, including turbines, generators, governors, hydraulics, piping systems, pumps, compressors, HVAC, cranes, bearings, gearboxes, and related equipment required for safe and reliable facility operation.
  • Independently researches, designs, and supports implementation of new and upgraded mechanical equipment with minimal guidance and advanced technical judgement.
  • Provides strong project management support that includes budget forecasts, scheduling, coordination, construction/commissioning for medium/large-sized projects.
  • Perform complex engineering on critical/high risk equipment related to the mechanical equipment throughout the Power Production Hydro-Generation Facility.
  • Develop technical specifications and standards for ordering equipment and parts and utilize new technology and best practices during design.
