About The Position

Phoenix Tailings is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to support the design, build, and scale-up of industrial systems used in clean metals manufacturing. This role is for an engineer who enjoys hands-on mechanical design, working close to hardware, and solving real-world problems in high-temperature, industrial environments. The engineer will collaborate with senior engineers, operators, and cross-functional teams to transform concepts into functioning equipment that operates at scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 2–6 years of experience in mechanical design for industrial, manufacturing, or process equipment
  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar)
  • Experience designing or supporting large industrial systems or equipment
  • Hands-on mindset with experience supporting equipment build, installation, or commissioning
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, startup manufacturing environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to high-temperature systems, thermal processes, or industrial materials preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, and implement mechanical systems to improve facility processes at our Exeter site and Burlington R&D operations.
  • Lead design-for-manufacture efforts for new equipment and facility upgrades, ensuring buildability and operational safety.
  • Conduct testing and validation of mechanical systems, analyzing performance data to recommend design improvements.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, and specifications for fabrication and assembly.
  • Perform mechanical and thermal calculations to ensure designs meet process and safety requirements.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new or modified equipment and systems.
  • Drive continuous facility improvement projects to increase system reliability and process efficiency.
  • Collaborate with process engineers and metallurgists to integrate mechanical solutions into critical metals production workflows.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of designs, tests, and changes for knowledge transfer and operational excellence.
