The Mechanical Engineer will develop and support product designs, create and maintain engineering documentation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve production and testing challenges. Responsibilities include mechanical design, prototyping, analysis, design verification, and supporting the transition of products from development to production. This position will have a strong focus on electromechanical assemblies, cable harness design, and enclosure design.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly and documentation processes.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with industry-standard design tools such as Solidworks, NX Designer, and/or PTC Creo.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated practical experience with mechanical engineering design and an understanding of common fabrication practices (subtractive and additive).
  • Experience with electromechanical assembly design including enclosure design, cable harnesses, and general electronic packaging.
  • Ability to translate requirements into physical designs, particularly for applications involving electromechanical assemblies, cable harnesses, and enclosures.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, including mechanical engineers, mechanical drafters, electrical engineers, software engineers, and system engineers.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and excel in a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Familiarity with Collins Aerospace or Avionics products.
  • Experience with mechanical test equipment design.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to effectively communicate design choices and technical concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs, create and modify documentation, and provide production support for the Burnsville, MN facility.
  • Contribute to the success of a cross-functional team to develop solutions to production including initial design of new solutions and redesigns of existing.
  • Develop and review product designs and analyze development and design requirements, with an emphasis on electromechanical assemblies, cable harness design, and enclosure design.
  • Design test stations, fixtures, cables, interconnects, and associated documentation.
  • Perform tolerance analyses and ensure designs meet mechanical and functional requirements.
  • Prepare and present project/technical information to peers, internal management, and customers.
  • Plan and manage tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Facilitate the documentation and drawings of mechanical designs from initial concept through release.
  • Address considerations for thermal, vibration, and other environmental constraints during the design and verification process.
  • Support prototype builds and transition products to production, ensuring manufacturability and efficiency.
