About The Position

RTX is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to join the space mechanisms team. This role will support mechanisms development, integration, and testing across multiple space programs in El Segundo, CA. The engineer will perform mechanical component and mechanisms design using Creo, and support assembly, integration, and test activities in a lab environment. They will also conduct research on tribology in mechanisms and the application of kinematics in designing and analyzing mechanical assemblies. The position involves working with a team of specialized junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers to support the design, build, and test of EO/IR space hardware. Responsibilities include creating and revising opto-mechanical designs/drawings, generating assembly instructions, providing build support, and ensuring design for producibility and manufacturability. The engineer will also present their work for peer reviews.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Less than 2 years of prior experience.
  • Project experience in the design and development of mechanical hardware.
  • Experience with commercial CAD software, such as Creo.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • Active and existing TS/SCI without Polygraph security clearance required after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of motors, position feedback sensors, bearings, and gears.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in GD&T and Tolerance analysis for designs/drawings.
  • Knowledge of DFMA principles and modern machining techniques.
  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace.
  • Understanding of Change Management, and processing Engineering Changes in a Product Data Management Tool.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical component and mechanisms design on opto-mechanical systems using Creo.
  • Support assembly, integration and test activities in a lab environment.
  • Perform research on tribology in mechanisms and application of kinematics in designing and analyzing mechanical assemblies.
  • Work with a team of specialized junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers to support the design, build and test of EO/IR space hardware.
  • Create and/or revise opto-mechanical designs/drawings.
  • Generate assembly instructions.
  • Provide build support in conjunction with technicians and other engineering disciplines.
  • Design for producibility and manufacturability.
  • Present work for peer reviews.
