About The Position

STV’s Buildings Group is seeking a Mechanical (HVAC) Engineer for our Buildings group in Philadelphia and Douglassville, Pennsylvania to support the design and delivery of mechanical systems across a diverse portfolio of buildings projects, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, education, and public-sector facilities. This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment delivering high-performance, sustainable building systems from concept through construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is preferred, however, a non-degreed candidate with equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5–8 years of experience in HVAC design within buildings/vertical construction.
  • FE certification preferred; PE license preferred or in progress.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and HVAC design tools (HAP, Trace or similar).
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards, energy codes, and building codes.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with institutional, healthcare, higher education, or commercial buildings projects.
  • Familiarity with Design-Build and fast-track delivery.
  • Experience with energy modeling, sustainability, and decarbonization.
  • Knowledge of BIM workflows and Revit coordination environments.
  • LEED accreditation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems for buildings, including air distribution, hydronic systems, and central plant systems.
  • Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, and system layout development.
  • Prepare and coordinate mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing teams.
  • Support all phases of project delivery from design through construction administration.
  • Participate in BIM coordination using Revit.
  • Conduct site visits, assessments, and inspections.
  • Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and support field coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, IBC, IECC, and local Pennsylvania codes.
  • Support QA/QC reviews to improve document quality and coordination.
  • Assist with energy modeling and sustainable design strategies.
