About The Position

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. This role involves designing, installing, operating, and maintaining mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles. The engineer will research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles. They will also investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and make recommendations to the maintenance crew. Development of mechanical and controls design using drafting tools or computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software is also a key part of the role. Overseeing installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications is required. Conducting research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, and systems, and recommending design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions are also responsibilities. Developing and testing models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification is part of the role. Estimating costs and submitting bids for engineering, construction, or extraction projects, and preparing contract documents are also included. Establishing and coordinating maintenance and safety procedures, service schedules, and supply of materials required to maintain machines and equipment in the prescribed condition is necessary. Studying industrial processes to determine where and how equipment application can be made is also a responsibility. The engineer will use fluid dynamic, thermodynamic, and heat transfer scientific knowledge as required to design tubing and piping systems.
