Mechanical Engineer (Generation) I, II, III or Senior
About The Position
This position is responsible for the strategic leadership and project management of generation capital and operations and maintenance projects. This includes planning, directing, or coordinating engineering, and procurement (including materials and services) activities and management of generation facilities' construction projects. The role involves performing engineering analyses for the inception, development, and execution of projects in support of generation operations. The Mechanical Engineer will manage the complete life cycle of capital projects, including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing. Responsibilities also include administering the fulfillment of contracts and developing and conducting presentations as assigned. The position can be filled at one of four job grade levels: Mechanical Engineer (Generation) I (job grade 7), Mechanical Engineer (Generation) II (job grade 8), Mechanical Engineer (Generation) III (job grade 9), or Senior Mechanical Engineer (Generation) (job grade 10), based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and Tri-State's business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
- Eight (8) + years of progressive experience in generating plant design and construction work.
- Expert knowledge of operation and maintenance of generating facilities.
- Expert knowledge of applicable Codes and Standards, such as ASME B31.1 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
- Strong knowledge of PC programs and application to functional tasks.
- Working knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of government regulations and industry standards affecting electric utilities.
- Ability to direct the work of others.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to travel up to 30 percent of the time on an annual basis.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineering License is preferred.
- Experience with Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle plants is preferred.
- Experience with Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle with frame and/or aero-derivative gas turbines is preferred.
- Desire to work in power plant design and betterment design.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction on assigned projects.
- Perform engineering analyses of process systems at generation facilities.
- Initiate and develop project scopes, schedules, justifications, and budgets for both Capital and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) projects.
- Conduct or coordinate engineering design of capital improvement projects for generation facilities.
- Prepare technical specifications and scope of work for proposals and coordinate the development of contract documents.
- Monitor and control progress, performance, and project costs.
- Finalize all project activities to formally close-out assigned capital projects.
- Prepare and make presentations for project justifications, design reviews and project approvals.
- Conduct engineering review of operating and maintenance requirements for generation, with input from Operations.
- Provide project management during the implementation of Capital and O&M Projects.
- Administer Contracts including Contractor oversite and both technical and commercial adherence to contract requirements.
- Monitor on-site contractors and field work for associated projects.
- Responsible for communicating with all project stakeholders and participants providing timely responses to information and documentation needs.
- Participate in the selection of consulting firms and monitor their engineering activities.
- Direct the work of others, as required.
- Assist with training of personnel.
- Complete reports and special projects, as assigned.
- Assist in the preparation and administration of the annual budget, work plans, long-range forecasts including project specific budget/cash flow management.
