About The Position

A multidisciplinary team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Department Manager for its Grand Rapids team. The manager will coordinate with project managers, supervise projects and staff, and help ensure project delivery meets quality standards and client expectations. The role also includes department planning, staffing, staff administration, recruiting and training support, and business development.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of mechanical design experience in a consulting environment.
• Experience designing projects in one or more of these sectors: healthcare, sports, commercial, public sector, industrial, education, or institutional.
• Working knowledge of Revit.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Responsibilities

• Work with project managers within the organization.
• Create work plans and estimates for department staff assigned to projects.
• Ensure work meets QA/QC standards and client expectations.
• Supervise projects and staff.
• Meet performance metrics and goals.
• Prepare proposals and administer project contracts.
• Maintain backlogs and manpower forecasts to support appropriate staffing and department utilization.
• Perform annual reviews and approve staff timecards and expense reports.
• Assist Human Resources with recruiting and training.
• Participate in trade organizations.
• Assist with business development.
