About The Position
Leading multi-disciplinary team is looking for a Mechanical Engineer Department Manager for their Detroit team! This role involves working with Project Managers, creating work plans, ensuring quality standards, supervising projects and staff, meeting performance goals, preparing proposals, administering contracts, and managing department utilization. The position also includes performing annual reviews, approving timecards and expense reports, assisting HR with recruiting and training, participating in trade organizations, and supporting business development efforts.
Requirements
- BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience in a consulting environment
- Experience designing Healthcare, Sports, Commercial, Public Sector, Industrial, Education, and/or Institutional projects
- PE License preferred
- Working knowledge of Revit
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Successful applicant must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship.

Responsibilities
- Work with Project Managers within the organization
- Create work plans/estimates for department staff assigned projects
- Ensure work meets QA/QC standards and client expectations
- Supervise projects/staff
- Meet performance metrics/goals
- Prepare proposals and administer project contracts
- Maintain backlogs/manpower forecasts for proper staffing and department utilization
- Perform annual reviews and timecards/expense report approvals for staff
- Assist Human Resources with recruiting and training
- Participate in various trade organizations
- Assist with business development
