About The Position

This position applies mechanical engineering principles to interpret specifications and develop automation equipment and layouts. The Mechanical Engineer creates 3D models and 2D drawings, generates bills of material (BOMs), supports project execution and onsite installation, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, reliable, and maintainable solutions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience (distribution center or industrial automation experience preferred).
  • 3+ years of 2D/3D CAD experience (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo/Pro/ENGINEER) with the ability to produce manufacturing-ready drawings.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic systems, basic mechatronics concepts, and automation equipment integration.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Lean principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical workstreams or provide technical direction within a project team environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and project documentation tools.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks (or comparable CAD platforms).
  • Strong blueprint/engineering drawing reading skills with the ability to interpret specifications and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of the organization while remaining customer oriented.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET) from an accredited college or university.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing for manufacturability, serviceability, and safety in industrial automation environments.
  • Experience with material flow / discrete event simulation software (e.g., FlexSim or Visual Components).
  • Basic knowledge of industrial controls (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and industrial networking).

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components, subsystems, and work cells using 2D/3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Develop concepts from requirements, create layouts, and produce detailed part/assembly drawings and BOMs.
  • Develop and/or validate equipment and process concepts using material flow / discrete event simulation tools (e.g., FlexSim or Visual Components) as applicable.
  • Coordinate prototype build and testing using internal and external manufacturing resources; document results and design changes.
  • Support project execution by collaborating with Project Engineers/Project Managers, vendors, and operations stakeholders.
  • Provide installation and commissioning support, including reviewing site work for accuracy and assisting with mechanical troubleshooting as needed.
  • Investigate equipment failures and inefficiencies; recommend corrective actions that support safety, quality, Lean, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure designs are practical, maintainable, and aligned with applicable standards and best practices.
  • Contribute to team success by completing related duties as assigned.
