About The Position

The Aeromechanical Engineer 3 is responsible for the design, test, build, and improvement of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), and their support equipment based on contractual or internal requirements. This is an onsite position and may require up to 25% travel, within and outside the United States.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks or CATIA.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and quality control procedures.
  • Understanding of regulatory and industry standards, such as FAA regulations, AS9100, and ISO 9001.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 4-8 years of experience in aerospace or related field.
  • Experience working for a military contract and performing formal technical presentations such as a PDR, CDR, PRR.
  • Experience with UAVs or RC aircraft.
  • Experience in a rapid prototype environment.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI DoD clearance, U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Frequently required to sit, and to reach to use computers and other office equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or a related field is a plus.
  • Solidworks Certified Professional in Mechanical Design (CSWP) is a plus.
  • Experience with Star-CCM+ and XFLR a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Use Solidworks to design and modify parts and assemblies.
  • Create 2D drawings of parts and assemblies complete with bill of material (BOM) for internal or external fabrication and assembly.
  • Perform aerodynamic analysis and calculations to inform the design and predict the behavior of aircraft.
  • Develop and analyze mechanical systems for aircraft, including engines, airframes, and avionics.
  • Conduct simulations, testing, and prototyping to validate designs and ensure they meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and systems engineers, to integrate mechanical systems into larger aerospace systems.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential mechanical failures.
  • Design and oversee the manufacturing and assembly processes of mechanical components, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of designs, processes, and test results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
