About The Position

The Process Critical team is responsible for some of the most critical hardware with the closest proximity to the wafer and largest impact on plating performance. Our team partners closely with process engineering and customer account teams to deliver world-class hardware solutions for our customers. The team is seeking someone with a passion for engineering, strong analytical skills and attention to detail while keeping work fun and collaborative. As a Mechanical Engineer 2 in the WETS Product Group, you will contribute directly in the continuous improvement of plating cell hardware for wet plating process equipment on the Sabre and Sabre 3D products. Your work will support critical customer engagements, shaping mechanical designs that meet performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability goals. In this role, you will translate system‑level and subsystem requirements into robust mechanical solutions, working closely with Systems, Process, Electrical, Controls, and Key Account Team partners. Your contributions will help reduce development risk, accelerate schedules, and enable high‑quality products to reach customers on time. This is an execution‑focused role with meaningful ownership, where strong fundamentals and good engineering judgment make a visible impact on product success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 2+ years of experience; or an advanced degree without previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Exercises good judgement in mechanical design methods and evaluation criteria
  • Completes tasks independently and recognizes when direction is needed
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools, preferably Creo and/or NX
  • Solid foundation in mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Effective problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electroplating or the semiconductor industry at large is a plus
  • Knowledge of metal machining, plastics machining, elastomeric seals, and coating commodities
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to test ideas, gather manufacturability feedback, and to maintain focus on timely executing to deliverables
  • Understanding of statistics and variability to ensure long-term part reliability
  • Able to develop accurate problem statements and evaluate solution options
  • Able to perform computational modeling, mainly for structural mechanics and fluid dynamics

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for complex semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Translate subsystem‑level requirements into detailed mechanical designs, layouts, and drawings.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and engineering documentation in accordance with Lam standards.
  • Perform engineering analysis (e.g., tolerance analysis, thermal‑mechanical considerations, structural integrity) to support design decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Systems, Process, Electrical, Controls, Software, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure successful subsystem integration.
  • Support NPI phase‑gate activities (Pre‑DR, DDR, CDR, FDR) by delivering assigned mechanical design milestones on schedule.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis, contributing to DFMEA and corrective action efforts.
  • Work with external Supply Chain partners to ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and cost‑effective.
  • Support prototype build, system integration, debug, and validation activities.
  • Contribute to sustaining engineering efforts and field issue resolution as needed.

Benefits

  • We believe it is important for every person to feel valued, included, and empowered to achieve their full potential. By bringing unique individuals and viewpoints together, we achieve extraordinary results.
  • Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
