Job Description We are seeking a highly experienced, self‑driven Mechanical Engineer 2 who thrives in a collaborative environment and can effectively manage engineering projects of varying size and complexity. In this role, you will support one of our key engineering value streams: Buildings & Grounds, Waterfront, or Utilities. Placement will be determined based on how your skills and expertise align with organizational needs. The ideal candidate brings strong technical proficiency, initiative, and a team‑oriented mindset. You will play a critical role in coordinating a wide range of engineering projects that contribute to essential facility improvements across the shipyard.

Requirements

  • 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; or 0 years experience with Masters in related field.
  • Candidate must successfully completed an undergraduate engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Candidate must have experience utilizing industry-current Engineering design and analytical software.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Confidential level Security Clearance.
  • Candidate must have experience with SOPs (standard operating procedures).
  • Candidate must have CAD Software programming experience required.
  • Candidate must have a proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor or 3D modeling equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Professional Engineer (PE) license, or an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) actively pursuing PE registration, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASME codes and experience working with heavy industrial mechanical systems, is preferred.
  • Experience in shipyard or nuclear facility environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of applicable NFPA codes and standards is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates, and develops mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, including metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic, or heat‑transfer systems used for the production, transmission, measurement, and application of energy.
  • Recommends technology solutions and improvement approaches for systems, processes, facilities, or programs with a focus on enhancing safety, performance, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • May also be responsible for transitioning designs and technologies from research and development into full-scale manufacturing.
