Primary Objective To develop high-quality mechanical designs, CAD models, and engineering documentation that meet project requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and company standards. This role ensures efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable design solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams, customers, and vendors to resolve technical challenges. The Mechanical Designer contributes to project success by applying advanced design skills, problem-solving expertise, and a customer-focused approach in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or Vo-tech certificate in drafting, design, industrial design, industrial engineering, electronics, or technical illustration with 4 years drafting/design experience.
  • or High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalency with 8 years relevant drafting/design exp.

Responsibilities

  • Create CAD models, assemblies, layouts, and detailed drawings based on sketches, notes, verbal instructions, and engineering specifications.
  • Ensure adherence to MTS CAD Best Practices for model creation, drawing creation, file management, and revision control.
  • Assist in refining designs by resolving details that are not completely defined.
  • Develop specifications, designs, and drawings using engineering principles and established MTS standards, procedures, and instructions.
  • Prepare accurate and complete Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing.
  • Verify work for accuracy, checking dimensions, materials, quantities, and processing details.
  • Ensure documentation is prepared and maintained in accordance with engineering change procedures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to solve design issues and create concept designs as needed.
  • Work with customers, vendors, assembly technicians, and cross-functional teams to resolve technical and design challenges.
  • Manage assigned project activities, ensuring timely release of designs to drive production.
  • Provide scheduling, costing, and technical information to internal departments and external vendors.
  • Multitask and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining organization and communication with stakeholders.
  • Develop designs with an understanding of manufacturing techniques and capabilities to ensure robust, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Make sound decisions to meet budget and timeline constraints.
  • Utilize multiple application platforms such as CAD systems, ERP systems, and SharePoint to execute design tasks effectively.
  • Provide regular feedback and status updates to project team members and supervisors.
  • Ensure all relevant parties are informed of design changes, ensuring timely updates and approvals.
  • Create high-resolution CAD renderings for marketing and presale purposes.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
