About The Position

The Mechanical Drafter / Documentation Specialist supports Beaumont Manufacturing and Distribution's Engineering team by producing accurate technical drawings and the production documents built from them. Working under the direction of the Engineering Manager, this role creates and revises CAD drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials. This individual will leverage technical writing for work instructions and Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) guides. The ideal candidate is a skilled CAD user with a strong mechanical aptitude who enjoys getting details right and seeing their drawings used on the shop floor.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in Drafting & Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent work experience will be considered
  • 2+ years of drafting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software
  • Solid understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning, and tolerancing
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape)
  • Experience with Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Strong hands-on technical skills and mechanical aptitude

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Experience writing work instructions or other production documents
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, assembly, and machined components

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise 2D drawings and 3D models in CAD (SolidWorks) from engineering sketches, markups, and verbal direction
  • Prepare detail, assembly, and exploded-view drawings with correct dimensions, tolerances, and drafting standards
  • Construct and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and part numbers
  • Process engineering changes (ECNs/ECOs): update drawings, revision blocks, and related documents, and confirm the correct revision is released to the floor
  • Develop and maintain work instructions for production teams, using drawings, exploded views, and photos
  • Create and maintain Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) guides
  • Draft simple fixtures, jigs, and work cell layouts as directed by engineering
  • Measure existing parts and assemblies to create or correct drawings (reverse engineering of legacy parts)
  • Maintain organized drawing files, revision history, and document records
  • Work with Production and Quality to fix drawing errors or unclear instructions reported from the floor
