About The Position

This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor - PD. The work model for the role is Onsite. The Mechanical Designer creates, modifies, and releases custom electric motor designs and associated engineering documentation for customer orders. They develop and update manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly specifications for low to medium complexity applications using established engineering practices and standard product platforms. The role involves collaborating with manufacturing, sales, and cross-functional teams to ensure customer requirements, product performance, quality, and production objectives are met. The team dynamics emphasize mutual support, collaboration, and continuous learning, with a focus on pushing ideas forward to solve real problems and making a tangible impact.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering - Preferred) OR Associate’s Degree (Mechanical Design/Drafting - Preferred) with minimum 2 years relevant experience OR High School Diploma with minimum 4 years relevant experience.
Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Nice To Haves

Expertise in complex part and assembly modeling for production‑ready designs.
Strong command of mechanical design fundamentals, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, and a variety of manufacturing processes such as die casting, machining, stamping, plastic molding, and fabrication.
Proven ability to create accurate production documentation, including detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering records, while supporting design changes and revisions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for engineering analysis, data reporting, and technical presentations.
SolidWorks PDM (Product Data Management), SolidWorks Design Professional Certification (CSWP), FEA or simulation tools, SAP or PLM systems, and design support for electromechanical or industrial products.
PMP Certification, Lean Six Sigma Certification, Working knowledge of UL, CSA, IEEE, NEMA regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Create, maintain, and update engineering drawings, Bills of Material (BOMs), specifications, and technical documentation for custom motor orders, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and manufacturability.
Support custom order execution by implementing design modifications, product configurations, engineering changes, and technical solutions that meet customer, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to provide technical documentation, resolve product and material issues, and support successful project delivery.
Utilize engineering tools, processes, and SAP systems to manage documentation, drive continuous improvement, identify and escalate technical risks, and ensure timely completion of assigned deliverables.
