About The Position

BR+A provides state-of-the-art integrated and coordinated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection consulting engineering, technology systems design, lighting design, and building commissioning services. BR+A is looking for a skilled Mechanical Designer in our Raleigh, NC office. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills and a working knowledge of Revit, and their responsibilities will include:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education, or Life Science projects

Nice To Haves

  • EIT (Engineer in Training) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations
  • Developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas
  • Developing equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases
  • Editing specifications to reflect the project requirements
  • Developing air and water flows
  • Understanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application
  • Using the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system
  • Meeting with vendors to determine specification requirements for application 
  • Coordinating with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details
  • Responding to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals
  • Understanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the plan
  • Understanding the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and delivering appropriate documentation
  • Modifying sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems
  • Understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipment
  • Meeting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details
  • Performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
