About The Position

Harriman is growing and seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our Mechanical studio. This is an opportunity to join a full-service practice that values work-life balance and offers a hybrid-work environment. Harriman's multi-disciplinary practice takes a holistic, ground-up approach to design, with architectural staff collaborating closely with integrated engineering groups to create innovative solutions. The role involves challenging and creative work, emphasizing design as a collaborative human endeavor. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the design of HVAC systems for various facility types, performing calculations, equipment selection, and specification writing. The role requires field-discovery skills, MEP troubleshooting experience, and the ability to assist or manage project scope, schedule, and budget. Coordination with other Harriman disciplines is essential. The position offers the chance to research new applications and contribute to building design.

Requirements

  • No previous experience as a mechanical designer is required.
  • Familiar with the basic principles of engineering, knowledge, basic math, physics, and mechanical science applicable to the field.
  • Undergrad Degree (2 years minimum) in Mechanical Engineering (other engineering or technical degrees to be considered on a case-by-case basis).
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Software proficiency: Revit and/or AutoCAD
  • Ability to learn new software quickly
  • Newforma Project Center
  • PDF Editing software such as Adobe or Bluebeam.
  • Load Calculation software, Trane Trace 700/3D
  • Deltek Vision
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Zoom/Teams/Video Conferencing Software

Responsibilities

  • Act independently regarding engineering methods and complexities, applying sound and practical knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Plan and conduct work including evaluation, selection, and design.
  • Assess problems and provide guidance to engineers, interns, and other personnel on project designs and solutions.
  • Provide project oversight and management, supervision, and guidance on overall objectives, critical issues, or new concepts.
  • Organize work to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Design of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional and healthcare facilities.
  • Perform HVAC building calculations, equipment selection, specification writing, etc.
  • Utilize field-discovery skills and MEP troubleshooting experience.
  • Assist or manage scope, schedule, budget, and delivery of projects.
  • Research new applications.
  • Coordinate as a team with the other Harriman disciplines for building design.
